The Taunton Society was founded in October 1989.  At the AGM on 7th November 2017 a resolution was passed to change the operating name to The Arts Society Taunton.  The Society currently has just under 200 members from Taunton and the surrounding area. Our aim is to increase our own understanding and enjoyment of the arts, to foster friendships and to support arts education and conservation in our local community.

Our programme of lectures runs from October to July, but excluding January each year, with meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. We have lectures from first class speakers, each a national or international expert in his or her field. Subjects cover a huge range of topics in the Arts and we also run study days and field trips for members.

Our heritage volunteers are working on two projects involving historical research, transcription and digital recording of old documents.

Our Church Recorders group catalogue the contents and features of our local churches.

We are affiliated to The Arts Society, who support us with a comprehensive Directory of approved lecturers and we are part of the South West area group of societies.
